Conduct experiments utilizing (40%)
- basic protein techniques such as:
- Protein isolation and quantification
- Western blotting
- basic DNA/RNA techniques such as:
- PCR and RT-PCR

- Records data from laboratory procedures as directed by supervisor.
- Records (by manually writing in a notebook or entering into a computer database via computer keyboard and software program) and evaluates the data as required and/or requested by supervisor.
- Comply with all applicable radiation procedures, chemical safety procedures and biological safety procedures.
- Comply with the NIH Guidelines for Recombinant DNA Research, CDC-NIH Guidelines for Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories and FDA Points to consider relevant to Human Somatic Cell and Gene Therapy.
- Demonstrates and practices laboratory safety precautions.
- Receives verbal and/or written instructions from Research Investigator on standards and specialized laboratory safety procedures.
- Attends annual safety courses required by MDA and others as necessary.
- Handles, stores and disposes of radioactive isotopes, chemically hazardous materials, and bio-hazardous materials in procedure specified to meet with MDACC safety guidelines
- Follows manufacturers’ guidelines regarding the safe handling of all laboratory equipment.
- Collects and accurately calculates experimental data (samples are interpreted by means of reading a computer-generated printout or by manually counting) under the guidance of supervisor, who records final project outcomes.

- Reads literature and confers with supervisor regarding new procedures and modifies them according to the needs of the project.

- Assist other laboratory employees with experiments and/or various work assignments when help is requested or as schedule permits.
- Make photocopies of documents using copy machine as necessary and/or requested by supervisor.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
EXPERIENCE: One year experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
